2013-09 Mt. Madonna Camping Trip

Our trip started off with a problem.  Two grub masters, Richard and Johnny forgot to bring ice and coolers for their perishable food.  We set up our tents in the dark as we normally do.  The next day, many scouts caught fish but Johnny caught the biggest fish, a bluegill.  We had to release all of our fishes because the lake has high levels of mercury from the old quicksilver mining days.  Our patrol had Spam Masubi for lunch.  After lunch, we visited the white deer which was once owned by William Randolph Hearst.  Then we went to the archery course where we shot bows and arrows.  For dinner, the Dragon cooked steak, Lightning cooked Mt. dew chicken, and the Sasquatch cooked pre-made Alfredo. We had a campfire after dinner which included songs, skits, and “Rose, Bud and Thorn”, where you shared what you liked, what you didn’t like, and what you want to improve. My Rose was catching my first fish.  We ended the campfire program with dutch oven desserts: chocolate cake and peach cobbler.  On Sunday, we had “Scouts Own service” led by our Chaplin Aid.  He asked each scout to share about their faith; our Scout Master talked about why religion is important to Scouting.  All in all, it was a good trip.
